Chapter 1
The sound of their breath.
That is all Jeff could hear as he ran through the woods trying to escape them, he had been running from them for days and now they had finally found him, he didn’t know what they were but he had heard stories of them since he had moved to the small welsh village of Hirwaun in the south of Wales, but he had thought of them only as fairytales and had ignored most of the stories.
Now he knew they were real and they were chasing him through the woods, for all he could hear, they were quite close now.
The things that had savagely ripped Nick limb from limb in front of Jeff’s eyes and then preceded to devour him while Jeff watched in disgust as the people he had called friends in the village turned into these monsters, and they had chased after him, now they were even closer, So close he could hear every snarl and footstep.
Jeff knew it was only a matter of time before they managed to catch him, but he had to let the world know about these foul creatures that had for so long plagued myths and legends and had somehow managed to hide themselves within our world, these creatures were fast and deadly and people had to be told, but how?
No! He had to keep going, time to stop thinking about what to do afterwards.
“Was there no where that was safe?” Jeff thought, as he ran on, as the trees started to thin out he felt a glimmer of hope, hope that he could get away from them when they left the tree line as they did not want to be seen by anyone, Jeff pushed himself to run faster and as he left the woods, sprinting as fast as he could, he heard them stop, growling and snarling in his direction as he kept running further and further away until he had made some distance between him and them, he then stopped and looked back and saw what had been chasing him in the full moon light, there was no mistaking what “they” were.
He could clearly make out the black hair on their backs and the grey hairs on their stomachs, the long snouts that held many sharp teeth as long as his index finger, the short tails that were still as they watched him out of their cold yellow eyes, the muscles beneath the flash were that of superhuman strength that could rip the flesh from the bone, they were things that gave many people nightmares as children and made people wary of the full moon, they were part of the darkness, the shadows that hunt for prey by the light of the night, the welsh called them gŵrwulf, he knew them by one name, a name that had instilled a chill to his blood since his youth, they were, standing a clear eight feet from the ground, watching him as he watched them.
Werewolf.
And they were waiting for him, Jeff knew he had to leave the village, if not the country tonight, but he would let the world know what had happened in Hirwaun, let them know of these beasts that had secretly infested the world over the centuries and had killed countless people because of the fact to them humanity was prey.
Four weeks later Jeff was in London, trying to let everyone know what had happened in Hirwaun, what had happened to Nick, but no one would listen, no one believed in werewolves in the 21st century, werewolves were the creation of middle age superstition and crazy people, no one seemed to care that Nick had disappeared off the face of the world and that these things had done it before and would do it after, it was a lost cause but Jeff would not give up until people knew the truth about werewolves and if need be he would hunt them, starting with the ones that had killed Nick in cold blood.
